After having experienced difficulties in finding a magistrate who accepts to investigate the sensitive file of the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, the Dean of the Court of First Instance (TPI) of Port-au-Prince Me Bernard Saint-Vil finally obtained the agreement of judge Mathieu Chanlatte.
More than a month after the assassination of the Head of State, the judicial investigation will finally be able to begin.
Let’s recall that it was Judge Mathieu Chanlatte who had investigated the Dermalog case and it was again he who had investigated the case between the Haitian State and the owners of the Sogener company in 2020 and ordered the seizure of the SOGENER premises on the airport road as well that of the private property of Dimitri Vorbes, one of the main managers of the company.
It is the Ministry of Justice which will take the necessary measures for the safety of Judge Chanlatte and the exhibits and which will provide him with all the means required to conduct the investigation of this important case.
Reacting to this news, Jean Wilner Morin, the President of the National Association of Haitian Magistrates (ANAMAH) wished him good luck, hoping “that he will not be intimidated or be afraid” stressing that “It is an investigation which will take time […] “
For his part, Pierre Espérance, the Executive Director of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) said he hoped that Judge Mathieu Chanlatte would treat “the case with serenity, with the law as a compass without falling into political persecution”.
